A variety of Maximum Ride-related forums, both official and fan-made, have existed. This page discusses those I was aware of / posted on. Not discussed in detail: Livejournal; Tumblr; other sites.
This page does not discuss the official sites that were attached to these forums.
During its period of peak activity, the Maximum Ride fandom moved across three officially-sanctioned sites:
1. April 2005 - September 2007 - the Maximum Ride forums
2. early 2008 - early 2009 - Maximum Ride UK
3. 20 November 2008 - 2013 - Maximum-X / Max-Dan-Wiz
All have since gone offline, but by using the Wayback Machine, it is possible to view archived versions of these sites.
To do this easily, click the links, then click the "from" option to sort the search from oldest to newest. Clicking a link in the search will bring you to a page showing all the times that page has been archived, as highlighted circles on a calendar. Clicking these will load the archived version of your page. It's normal for these links to load slowly, so be patient.

This was one forum, which changed domain names in early 2007. This forum existed from April 2005 to September 2007, when it abruptly went offline.
Viewing archives of this forum is a slightly arcane process. Use this link. Now sort the search from oldest to newest, and click to the second page. Archived versions of forum content begin here, but are mixed in with content from the main page.
The domain name changed in early 2007, but archives only exist of the main page. You can look at them here. By January 2008, the domain name had been sold to a BMX forum.

This site existed from early 2008 to early 2009. The community was primarily UK-centric, but there were a lot of American members because it was the only official forum that existed in the early part of 2008. This was the least populous of the official forums.

This site existed from 20 November 2008 to early 2013. It was technically dedicated to three of James Patterson's YA book series: besides Maximum Ride, it also covered The Dangerous Days of Daniel X and Witch and Wizard. The URL change was associated with the release of this last series.
Though it functioned as an "official site" in some ways -- it was the home of Fang's Blog between 2008 and 2013, and also hosted official contests -- most activity on MX / MDW was conducted by fans, so I've chosen to discuss it here rather than on the page for official sites.

Fan-made forums on fanfiction.net were popular circa 2007 - 2009, though with the opening of MX, a lot of activity moved there.
Mega Glomp existed around 2007 - 2009. It originated in a long-running chat thread, the "Purple Mafia", on the first forums. It was mostly devoted to roleplaying and not devoted solely to Maximum Ride.
The Maximum Ride Unofficial Community. Started in 2009 in response to drama on the MX forums. Peak activity between 2009 and approximately 2012. (Full disclosure: I administrate this forum.)
